Case Study: Budget Communications

Budget Communications publishes a successful publication,
"The Jobs Book" and desired to have a companion web application to facilitate
collecting and presenting job listings via the web.
CSI worked with Budget staff
to create an automated system that would allow the customer to edit and approve
job listings as well as modify subscriber information. The Cold Fusion system also incorporates
the following functions: an employer data entry screen for businesses or Budget
staff to enter job listing records into the database; an employer review and
modify screen for Budget staff to use to edit or delete a selected job listing;
a subscriber information form, for individuals wishing to subscribe to the on-line
database; and an authorize subscriber screen, so that Budget staff can approve
subscriptions entered by site visitors. A key part of the project involved designing
a system that the customer could maintain; CSI designed a secure Administration
area for Budget staff that provides for data entry and modification. In order
to eliminate duplication of data entry, CSI also created a data export function
so that the database could be electronically transferred for print publication.
CSI created a password-protected job listing search that enables only paid subscribers
to search the database.
After a year of successful operation in one geographic area, Budget desired to expand its services to include a second area. With minimal effort, the database system was extended to allow for the dual area functionality.
